After using EFT,  the intensity of the emotion is relieved, or released from the cell tissue of the body. The memory or circumstance stays but the emotional charge is gone. Typically the result is lasting, and is often accompanied by a more positive outlook on the situation.

Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT gently helps realign the body's energy system. EFT incorporates an emotional element into the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits.

EFT is effective, easy to learn and an easy to use as a self help technique.


How to use EFT
EFT is easy to learn and easy to use.

Begin by tapping on the outside of the fleshy part of the hand (karate chop point) You start with the Set-up Phrase, tapping on the karate chop point or rubbing your sore spot.

Even though I feel_________(state your feelings or problem here) I deeply and completely love and accept myself.  If you have any conflicts about saying you completely love and accept yourself (due to self-esteem problems, e.g.), you can start with Even though I feel.......  I want to deeply and completely love and accept myself.  Eventually (and it may be sooner than you imaging), you will get to the point where stating that you love and deeply accept yourself is easy. 

Tap at each point and state each feeling (or each aspect of the problem).

Say one feeling on each point while tapping a few times on each point. Allow yourself to take deep breaths as they spontaneously arise.

The Sequence
1.Eyebrow (beginning of eyebrow, just above and to one side of the nose)
2.Side of Eye ( on bone bordering outside of eye)
3.Under Eye ( On bone under pupil)
4.Under Nose
5.Chin Point ( between chin and bottom lip)
6.Collarbone point (small dip underneath collarbone near sternum)
7.Under arm (about 4 inches beneath arm pit, or mid bra line)
8.        Tap the inside of the wrists together
9.Top of head


If you are intensely in the emotion, you can also tap without saying anything. You can tap with either hand, either side or both sides. It's good to tap all the points, but just tapping the karate chop or other single point can be very helpful. 

As the particularly intense emotions diminish, you can start working in more positive emotions.  You can repeat the tapping sequence until you sense a release.   Then you can start over again with a new set-up statement to work on another or deeper set of emotions.


Background
EFT evolved from Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and is part of the widely used Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT). Developed by Gary Craig, in 1995, Gary pioneered the concept that "The Cause Of All Negative Emotions Is A Disruption In the Body's Energy System". A disruption can be a trauma, a grief, a fear or a memory.

Gary learned that by tapping specific acupuncture points on the body, clients were relieved of emotional problems.
